You can walk to serious shopping from Sukhumvit 22 without a cross-city mission. EmSphere sits between Soi 22 and 24. Emporium and EmQuartier finish the EM District cluster. Terminal 21 is the Asok hop when you want a different floor plan.
Past that, the useful ones are not really shopping at all. K-Village down Sukhumvit 26 is an open-air dinner. Gateway Ekamai and Donki Mall, two and three stops east, are Japanese food halls with malls attached, and one of them never closes.
Rain is not a reason to skip the day; it is the reason to start indoors.

Emporium
Emporium sits on top of BTS Phrom Phong, with Benjasiri Park next door. Luxury and high-street mix, a cinema, and the most reliable air-conditioning on this stretch. If you only have one mall afternoon, start here and use the park as a break between floors.
Direct BTS access means you never have to cross Sukhumvit at street level. Weekday mornings are calm. Pair it with EmQuartier across the road the same day: the transfer is a skywalk, not a taxi.

EmQuartier
EmQuartier faces Emporium across Sukhumvit, with more open levels and a stronger cafe and dining scene. Good for browsing without a strict shopping list. Terraces work well in the evening when the heat drops.
The Helix wing is where D'ARK sits. The skywalk then continues toward EmSphere, so a stubborn afternoon can stay indoors from Phrom Phong all the way back toward Soi 22.

EmSphere is the third EM District mall, between Sukhumvit 22 and 24, and the closest door to the Arawana hotels on the soi. IKEA, a large food floor, and entertainment rather than the quieter luxury browse at Emporium.
Skywalks link it to Emporium and EmQuartier, so you never have to drop to the street. Start here if you are already on the soi and do not want the Phrom Phong station walk first. Official site: emsphere.co.th.

K-Village
K-Village is a community mall rather than a shopping one, and it is worth being clear about that before you walk down there. Two low open-air storeys on Sukhumvit 26, no department store, no luxury floor. What it has is restaurants with outdoor tables, which the EM District does not.
It is the closest thing to a neighbourhood evening within reach of Soi 22: dinner outdoors, a dog park, a playground, and none of the mall-atrium acoustics. Pet-friendly in the real sense, with a fenced run rather than a sign saying dogs are welcome.
The catch is the walk. It sits well down Sukhumvit 26, not up at the main road, so it is a short ride rather than a stroll from the soi. Open daily 10:00 to 22:00, and it is a better dinner than a better shop.

Terminal 21 Asok
Terminal 21 Asok is one BTS stop from Phrom Phong, or a short walk toward Asok from Soi 22. Airport-themed floors and a busy food court. Go for variety and a cheap dinner more than quiet luxury browsing.
Weekends are crowded. Late morning on a weekday is the usable window. It is the right hop when you have already done the EM District and want a different floor plan, not a second luxury mall.

Where to stay
Arawana Regency Park Sukhumvit
EmSphere is the walking start from Soi 22. Emporium and EmQuartier complete the EM District. Everything else is one or two BTS stops in either direction.
Gateway Ekamai
Two BTS stops east of Phrom Phong, and the skywalk drops you straight in from Ekkamai exit 4 without touching the street. Gateway is Japanese-themed and unembarrassed about it: a torii gate in the atrium, a floor given over almost entirely to Japanese chains, and a MaxValu downstairs for the snacks people actually come back with.
It is a food and errands mall, not a fashion one. Fifty-odd restaurants, a supermarket, a rooftop playground for anyone travelling with children, and a scale you can finish in an hour rather than a day. If EmQuartier is where you browse, this is where you eat and leave.
The other reason to know it is underneath: the Eastern Bus Terminal at Ekkamai is next door, and that is where the Pattaya coaches go from. A mall attached to your departure point is a genuinely useful thing on the morning you leave. Open daily 10:00 to 22:00.

Donki Mall Thonglor
Five storeys on Sukhumvit 63, anchored by a Don Don Donki that does not close. The supermarket runs 24 hours across the bottom two floors, which makes it the answer to a question the EM District cannot help with: where to go at two in the morning.
Imported Japanese groceries are the draw, along with the fresh counters, the prepared food, and a fair amount of the cosmetics and oddities the Don Quijote stores are known for. Prices on imports sit above what you would pay in Japan. People come anyway.
Access is the weak point. It is about a kilometre up the soi from BTS Thong Lo, which is not a walk anyone enjoys in the afternoon, so take the mall shuttle or a motorbike taxi. The rest of the building keeps normal hours even though the supermarket does not.

How to shop without melting
Mall-hop in the afternoon heat, soi or park time after sunset, one focused purchase list so you are not carrying bags for six hours. Leave big outdoor sightseeing for cooler mornings.
A practical half-day from Soi 22: EmSphere first, skywalk to Emporium and EmQuartier, Benjasiri Park as the reset, Terminal 21 only if you still have legs. Split that across two days if you are staying the week.
The eastward ones are a separate outing, not an extension of that one. Gateway and Donki are a Japanese food afternoon two and three stops along the line, and K-Village is an evening rather than a day. Do not try to bolt either onto the EM District walk.

Planning your visit
- Shop in the heat, walk in the cool
- The malls exist for the hours between about eleven and four, when being outside in Bangkok is unpleasant. Save the outdoor places like K-Village and the residential sois for after the sun goes down.
- Use the skywalks
- The Em District malls connect to each other and to BTS Phrom Phong above street level, and Gateway Ekamai links directly to Ekkamai station. You can cover a lot of ground without crossing a road or getting rained on.
- Carry one focused list
- The mistake is buying early and then carrying bags for five hours in the heat. Decide what you actually need, buy it last, and use the earlier part of the day for looking rather than acquiring.
- Claim your VAT refund properly
- If you are eligible as a visitor, ask for the refund paperwork at the point of purchase rather than afterwards, keep the receipts together, and leave time at the airport, because the counter queue is longer than you expect.
- Go on a weekday if you can
- Bangkok malls are considerably busier at weekends, when the whole city treats them as air-conditioned public space. A Tuesday afternoon in the same mall is a different and much better experience.
The genuine advantage of Sukhumvit 22 is that serious shopping is a walk rather than an expedition: EmSphere is the nearest door, the rest of the Em District follows, and everything else on this list is one or two BTS stops away. Use the malls for the heat, the community malls and sois for the evening, and do not spend the afternoon carrying bags you bought at eleven.
