Sukhumvit 22 guests ask for coffee spots more than almost anything else. Here are places we send people when they want a good cup, a seat, and a reason to leave the room for an hour without turning the morning into a project.
Most of these cups sit between Thong Lo and Phrom Phong. Treat the list as a morning or a pause, not a cafe crawl. One good table beats four mediocre stamps.
The short version
- Almost all of these sit between Phrom Phong and Thong Lo, so one walk covers several.
- The Siam Tea Room is on Soi 22 itself, which means no crossing Sukhumvit at all.
- For working, pick Kuppa or Ceresia over a mall cafe. Sockets and space are the difference.
- The Commons in Thong Lo is one BTS stop and works better as a half-morning than a quick stop.
- Treat this as a list to choose from, not a crawl. One good table beats four mediocre stamps.
- Independent cafes are more likely to be cash than the mall ones, so carry some.
D'ARK by Phillip Di Bella
D'ARK sits on the Helix side of EmQuartier, a two-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong. It is the mall cafe we send people to when they want a proper espresso drink and a brunch plate, not a laptop bunker. The room is polished and air-conditioned, which is the point on a 35-degree morning.
Weekday mornings before 10am are the calm window. Weekend brunch fills from mid-morning. Budget a few hundred baht for coffee and a plate; you are paying for the table and the air as much as the beans. If you only have one mall stop, pair it with a walk through Benjasiri Park afterwards.
Good to know
- EmQuartier Helix, walk from BTS Phrom Phong
- Espresso and brunch; quieter on weekday mornings
- Go before 10am on weekends
Ceresia Coffee Roasters
Ceresia is on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1, a short walk from BTS Phrom Phong and a calmer room than anything inside EmQuartier. The focus is single-origin pour-over and espresso, with enough table space that a laptop for an hour is normal rather than rude.
Weekday mornings are the easy window. It is not a brunch theatre: come for the cup and a quiet hour, then walk back toward Soi 22 or on to Ryoku if you still want food. Cards are fine; you will not need a reservation.
Good to know
- Near Soi 33/1, short walk from BTS Phrom Phong
- Pour-over and a calmer room for laptops
- Weekday mornings are the easy window
Kuppa
Kuppa is a long-running all-day room on Sukhumvit Soi 16, about a ten-minute walk from Soi 22 via Asok. It is the default when a group cannot agree: coffee, a full breakfast or lunch plate, and a bakery counter that still works if you arrive later than planned.
The breakfast menu runs past the usual cut-off. Expect a busy room at weekends and a more usable table on a weekday. It is a meal stop more than a specialty-coffee shrine, which is why we still send people here.
Good to know
- Soi 16, walkable from Sukhumvit 22 via Asok
- Coffee plus a full breakfast or lunch plate
- Breakfast menu runs later than most
Ryoku is a white house with a garden on Sukhumvit Soi 35, a short walk from BTS Phrom Phong. Souffle pancakes and matcha are the reason for the queue. People photograph it, which is also why a seat after 10am at the weekend is a gamble.
Go before 10am if you want a table without a wait. Garden seats work when the weather holds; otherwise the indoor room is tight. Pair it with Ceresia on the same soi cluster if the first choice is full. This is a short, sweet stop, not a two-hour laptop session.
Good to know
- Sukhumvit Soi 35, walk from BTS Phrom Phong
- Pancakes and matcha; arrive early at weekends
- Garden tables when the weather holds
Bru is on Sukhumvit Soi 20, the next soi along from 22, about an eight-minute walk from Express Sukhumvit 22. Independent specialty coffee, a tiled peach facade, and a room that is calmer than the mall cafes. If you only want one stop from the hotel, this is the first walk we suggest.
Open from 7am. Weekday mornings take a laptop without fuss. Weekends fill for breakfast plates. Smaller independents can still be cash-friendly, so carry some baht as well as a card.
Good to know
- Sukhumvit Soi 20, walk from Soi 22
- Open 7am-7pm; specialty coffee and breakfast
- Weekday mornings are the quiet ones
The Siam Tea Room is on Soi 22 itself, in the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park lobby, so you never have to cross Sukhumvit. Thai breakfast, afternoon tea, and a garden terrace when you want a sit-down without leaving the soi.
Open 8am to 11pm, which makes it the useful fallback when smaller cafes are full or the rain starts. Reservations help at weekends. It is the closest named table to both Arawana hotels on the soi.
Good to know
- Sukhumvit Soi 22, same soi as the hotels
- Thai breakfast, tea and a garden terrace
- Open 8am-11pm; book weekends
Sarnies is on Sukhumvit Soi 37, a short hop from BTS Phrom Phong. Specialty coffee, sourdough, and a brunch menu that runs late enough that a 7pm coffee still makes sense. Open 7am to 10:30pm.
The room is louder than Ceresia. Choose it when you want food with the cup, not a silent laptop bunker. Cards are fine. It is a ten-minute walk from Arawana Express Sukhumvit 22, or one BTS stop from Soi 22.
Good to know
- Sukhumvit Soi 37, walk from BTS Phrom Phong
- Coffee, sourdough and a late brunch menu
- Open 7am-10:30pm
The Commons side trip
The Commons is an open-air compound on Thong Lo Soi 17: one BTS stop to Thong Lo plus a short walk. Several coffee and food counters sit around a courtyard, so it works when you want a change of scene rather than a single cafe.
Go hungry rather than just thirsty. The food stalls are the reason to make the hop; coffee alone is not worth the transfer. Late afternoon into evening is the pleasant window, when the heat drops and the courtyard fills.
Good to know
- Thong Lo Soi 17, one BTS stop plus a short walk
- Several coffee and food counters in one compound
- Go hungry, not only thirsty
Lobby coffee without guilt
On rainy mornings, a simple hotel coffee and a rewritten plan is underrated. Not every cup needs a destination.
Save the full cafe circuit for a day when the weather actually cooperates.
Good to know
- Skip the walk when it is raining
- Hotel coffee, rewrite the plan
- Save the cafe circuit for a dry morning
Planning your visit
- Go before ten or after two
- The brunch rush between about ten and two fills the popular rooms and turns a relaxed coffee into a wait for a table. Early morning is the best time in almost all of them.
- Check the day before you walk
- Several independent cafes here close one weekday, and it is rarely the day you would guess. A quick look at their current hours saves a fifteen-minute walk to a closed door.
- Pick for sockets if you are working
- Mall cafes are convenient and short on power outlets and space. If you plan to sit for three hours with a laptop, choose one of the standalone rooms and go early enough to get a table with a plug.
- Carry some cash
- The mall cafes all take cards, but smaller independent places sometimes do not, or have a minimum. A few hundred baht in your pocket removes the problem entirely.
- Do not plan a crawl
- Four cafes in a morning means four rushed cups and a lot of walking in the heat. Pick one, sit properly, and use the rest of the list on other mornings.
The point of a cafe on a trip is an hour off, not another item ticked. Pick one room from this list that suits what you actually want that morning: a quiet table, a laptop and a socket, or a garden and a pancake, and walk to it rather than trying to see them all. Most of them are within twenty minutes of Sukhumvit 22 on foot. If you want the wider neighbourhood, 11 things to do near Sukhumvit 22 is the walking list, and the food side is in The 5 best Thai restaurants in Sukhumvit.
